Advice for Stocking Ponds

The sequence of stocking your pond will vary depending upon the final goal you desire.  Do you want large sport fish or many fish for the grand kids to enjoy?  Are you going to use the fish as a food source? Do you have a favorite or preferred species?    Some people just want a balanced self sustaining pond to enjoy its’ natural beauty. Whatever your goals, take advantage of our free pond consultation. Our Trout both Rainbow and Brooks are raised from eggs in our state of the art recirculating water use hatchery powered by solar energy.  These aggressive and fast growing fish often reach 18-22 inches in size and are excellent for fishing and /or eating. 

Ponds 14-16 ft. in depth are best suited for these beautiful fish.  Trout either Rainbows or Brooks are a favorite fish for sport fishing derbies.

A variety of warm water sport fish for shallower ponds including Bass, Perch, Blue Gill, Koi, and Catfish are well suited for Western New York’s warm summer months.  Whether, it’s stocking a new pond or restocking an established pond bait fish are important to the success of warm water fish species. Periodic stocking of bait fish is recommended. Feeding fish in the form of pellets can provide additional growth and the enjoyment of watching aggressive fish feed.

Stocking of fish is dependent on seasonal conditions and spawning.  Sizes and availability vary throughout the season. Placing your order early is recommended.
